Past in the Present (squatters' chairs) 2004 have been shifted.

My Public Art Seating 'Past in the Present' in Castlemaine St. Kirwan has been relocated to Riverway in front of Pinnacles Gallery.

Check out the very comfy squatters' chairs when next at Riverway enjoying a relaxing time having a drink with a friend under the shade of the leafy Raintree .   (Sylvia Ditchburn 2024)

Past in the Present (squatters chairs)    2004

These stylised squatters' chairs reflect Townsville's pastoral history  of rural homesteads and wide open verandas where folk relaxed for a cuppa or a chat and travellers were always welcome.

Did you know the suburb names Condon, Rasmussen and Kelso are the family names of pioneers who established farms where they ran dairy cattle and grew small crops.

Past in the Present was originally located in the Kirwan Commercial Business Precinct before being relocated to the Riverway Arts Precinct in 2024.

The Artwork was commissioned by the Turingowa City Council as part of the Castlemaine Street Public Art Project."
